License tagging for File:Lena Mae and Johnny Gist Store Joinerville.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lena Mae and Johnny Gist Store Joinerville.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Jim1138. I noticed that you recently removed some content from File:1930's Joinerville.jpg without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Jim1138 (talk) 08:25, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks Jim. I'm learning!

Please do not remove the File for deletion template until it has been resolved on the Wikipedia:Files for deletion page. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 08:29, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • My apologies. I'm still a rookie at this.

Images

[edit]

I would recommend reading Wikipedia:Images first. I am not really sure what to say about family images. If you do own the copyright then you can release it (I believe). A problem might occur if another family member objects. Remember, if you do post your images on Wikipedia, it becomes essentially public domain (perhaps with an attribution) and there is no recall. The image might appear somewhere that you really don't want it to; such as an advertisement. I added a welcome section at the top of your page which lists where to go for help and such. BTW: you can delete all of that nonsense above per Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#User talk pages My apology for all of the warnings. Welcome to Wikipedia! [edit]

With this edit [1], you seem to have copied the entire section on the Gaston school verbatim from http://www.gastonmuseum.org/gm40.00.htm Wikipedia assumes that content on websites is copyright unless the site carries a disclaimer or free license. That site does neither.

I appreciate that as a new editor, you may be unfamiliar with copyright, and with Wikipedia's rules. Can I suggest that you read WP:NFCC, which is the policy on using content that is not freely licensed (ie that anyone can reuse).

Unfortunately, I have had to removed the entire section - we simply cannot keep it as it stands. If you want to include information about the school derived from that website, you must do it in your own words.

Did you do the same with any of the other content of the article? Is it copied from other websites. If so, please let me know, and please go back and rewrite it as a matter of urgency, otherwise I may have to delete the entire article, which would be a shame as you have worked very hard on it. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:06, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
